The eternal city is packed with many options for everyone’s taste. However, there are some things you must do while in Rome. Check out our list of activities you can’t miss when visiting!
1. Visit the main landmarks
It is obvious to mention you have to organise your stay in Rome around the historical monuments and popular spots. Some of the places you have to visit are the famous Coliseum, the Pantheon and the Vatican Museum. Despite this, we recommend you also get lost in the different areas of the city where you’ll easily find a history and culture in every corner.
2. Enjoy the aperitivo
A traditional thing to do in the evening is having an Italian aperitivo in one of the many bars, which consists of a sipping a drink and some nibbles before dinner. Locals usually order Spritz, Campari or Negroni and the restaurants offer complimentary small cheese or meat platters.
3. Stroll around the Trastevere
This popular and trendy neighbourhood is perfect to walk around and discover its cute restaurants and terraces or shop in its local boutiques. You will definitely get the “dolce far niente” feeling wandering around its cobbled and narrow streets under the light of the sunset in the evenings.
4. Taste as many traditional dishes as possible
Where to start? Pizza, pasta, “gelatto”, “tiramisú”… We can’t decide or choose from the neverending list of culinary delights this city has to offer and its many combinations of flavours, toppings and sauces. However, we suggest you try some other typical bites such as “carciofi alla Giudia”, “saltimbocca” or “supplí”, amongst others.
5. Discover Roma’s hidden gems
There are quite a few not so touristic neighbourhoods which are worth paying a visit. Some good examples are San Giovanni (which its many archeological sites) or Ostiense (famous for its street art culture). If it’s not the first time you visit Rome, another good option if you already know is to take an excursion to the nearby cities.
